Thousands of Green Long March volunteers have already set off in the summer heat to inspire action on climate change in communities across China! This year's march aims to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy sources such as biogas and solar power. Watch out for Green Long Marchers this July and August in a community near you as they help build a more sustainable China, one step at a time!

Green Long March 2009 Opening Ceremony



May, 2009

April 4 marked the official launch of the 2009 Green Long March! Over 8,000 youth environmentalists, student leaders and supporters came together under a promising blue sky to listen to government officials, university leaders, GLM volunteers, and Green Ambassadors proclaim their support. In the afternoon, volunteers conducted an awareness campaign at the Olympic Park while at the same time over 200 students planted trees at Zhoukoudian, outside Beijing.

GLM Film Wins Best International Documentary



March, 2009

The acclaimed documentary The Road Ahead: The First Green Long March, which chronicles the start of China's largest youth network for environmental action, was recently awarded "Best International Documentary" at the Queens International Film Festival. The film, shot and produced by non-profit studio Cinereach, is a hopeful story that proves a few small sparks can ignite a movement for social and environmental change.

Pendeba Program in Tibet



Winter, 2008

This past all, two Future Generations Tibet program facilitators returned to the high plateau conduct training workshops. Due to unfavorable weather condition in other program areas, follow-up research was only possible in Linzhi Prefecture. The prefecture is the second location where Future Generations has made agreements with the local government to institute the Pendeba program out side of the Qomolangma National Nature Preserve (QNNP).

Smile Beijing, It's The Green Long March!



Fall, 2008

Throughout August, China's young environmental leaders are bringing the Green Long March to customers in 30 Starbucks venues across Beijing. The Green Long March is about highlighting conservation successes, and, with the Green Olympics providing a great platform for international awarenessraising, the presentations aim to show the world what local Chinese communities and enterprises are doing to tackle environmental issues.
