The Green Long March is China’s largest youth conservation movement, developed and organised by FutureGenerations/CHINA in partnership with educational institutions, government agencies, and corporate sponsors. In 2008, we seek to transform nation-wide conservation awareness into long-term practical solutions through scaling-up the annual march, and introducing two new long-term initiatives: the Model Eco-Communities and China Conservation Scholars programs.
Conservation Campaigns:
Environmental education on a national scale, led by university students, carried out in schools, parks, plazas, cities, and villages across China
- Earth Day (April 22nd) and World Environment Day (June 5th): Environmental awareness and education sessions in parks, plazas and schools, carried out on a national scale by university students across China
- “Green Bridge” Beijing tree planting day (April 5th 2008): Tree planting and city-based conservation awareness-raising in Beijing
- Conservation education in Beijing during the 2008 Olympics (August 2008)
Seed-Scale Survey:
Bring attention to successful conservation projects in China
- Re-visit villages surveyed during the Green Long March 2007 to assess the impact of the initial survey and conservation awareness sessions
- Conduct follow-up surveys on outstanding conservation projects
- Update the national database of conservation successes
- On-site research of Green Enterprises along each route
Nation-wide March:
Engage more students and communities and achieve greater public outreach in environmental awareness, while highlighting the spirit of the 2008 Green Olympics
- Traverse 10 routes across China, while surveying and highlighting conservation successes
- March 2008 kilometres on foot by the 33 Green Long March partner universities to spread conservation awareness at the grassroots level, and welcome the 2008 Beijing Olympics
