Green Long March 2009 Opening Ceremony Event Notice

 

On Saturday April 4, 2009, Future Generations China and Beijing Forestry University will host the Opening Ceremony of the 2009 Green Long March (GLM), China’s largest network of student-led environmental action. Over 8,000 student environmentalists, government officials, environmental experts and their supporters will gather for the ceremony.

The Road Ahead: The First Green Long March

 

On March 3, 2009 at 6:30 PM, the Asia Society will host the first New York City screening of "The Road Ahead: The First Green Long March," an acclaimed Cinereach film chronicling the start of a national Chinese youth movement for the environment.

The film, which recently won the award for "Best International Documentary" at the Queens International Film Festival, will be introduced by noted environmental author Bill McKibben and followed by a discussion between Mr. McKibben, Orville Schell, and Cinereach producer Michael Raisler.

Christmas Tree Design Contest

 

Art and environmentalism will come together in Beijing this Christmas for a special Xmas tree design contest, hosted by Sanlitun "The Village", Milk Magazine, and the Green Long March. The challenge For young eco-minded designers to take a second look at everyday objects and create innovative Xmas tree designs from recycled materials.

Contestants will be marked on creativity, environmental impact and aesthetics. Judges include Future Generations Executive Director Frances Fremont-Smith, Tsinghua University Institute of Fine Art Professor Chen Nan, Hong Kong illustration artist Dorophy Yang, Ogilvy & Mather Executive Creative Director Kweichee lam, and 'Milk Magazine' Creative Director, Ken Chinn.

The winning design will be brought to life in The Village Piazza, where it will stand as the centerpiece throughout the Christmas period. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 designs – First prize: RMB 10,000, second prize: RMB 5,000, third prize: RMB 3,000.

FutureGenerations/CHINA invites you to experience the Green Long March for yourselves! The upcoming GLM Roadshow is a chance to get up-close and personal with China's next generation of environmental leaders, who will be presenting stories of conservation successes, community attitudes to the environment and experiences gathered during this year's Green Long March, to customers in 30 Starbucks venues across Beijing. The Green Long March is about highlighting environmental successes, and with the Green Olympics providing a great platform for international awareness-raising, the GLM Roadshow aims to show the world how China is tackling its environmental issues from the grassroots level.
