2010 Green Seed Award Competition - A Nationwide Youth Environmental Innovation CompetitionMarch 10, 2010

According to recent estimates, China has close to 2,000 university-based environmental associations. Over the years, these student groups have initiated a variety of conservation initiatives in an effort to strengthen public awareness on China’s most pressing environmental issues. Activities come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from green awareness campaigns on campuses, to field research that test water quality. While these initiatives are increasing in number year-by-year, students often face roadblocks due to the lack of funding available.

Future Generations China and Beijing Forestry University launched the Green Seed Award Program as part of the 2009 Green Long March in order to support these student groups and increase the number of youth involved in innovative conservation and sustainable development projects.

The 2010 Green Seed Award Program will expand to involve more schools from across the country. Future Generations China and Beijing Forestry University hopes that through greater involvement from teachers and in-the-field experts, project quality will increase and the program will continue to grow. Award amounts will depend on the type of project proposed.
